30th Oct

yes, i found out the date.. Day 4 in Beijing… went to Summer Palace, this is the place for the emperor to stay during summer… apparently the “main” Palace that’s in the heart on Beijing was too hot for the empress during the summer…  *sweat*  it’s true…

PA300466

Alot of trees, to keep the temperature low i think...

This place is so very cold, smart phoebe wore short skirt some more…

PA300468

so adorable! aawww...

Very Super Chubby little bird, and it’s blue in colour… not the whole bird lar…

PA300472

Very happy to have it

Was very very cold, and a lil hungry, so bought this mee in cup is keep my hands warm and my tummy happy(?)…

PA300483

at one of the look out points

erm, i dont think that’s the sea, but rather a lake…

PA300492

a corridor of paintings

and mind you, it’s a very loooong stretch of corridor.. and there are no repeated paintings…

PA300500

Water mark - literally

it’s just not water, it will dry up very very fast….

then we went and try Beijing’s McD! My friend said got pork burger, but cant find lar… the waitress said dont have :(

PA300513

Taste better than Malaysia wan leh!

Then across the street, its a VERY VERY famous shopping complex! muahahaha!

PA300514

Xiu Shui Jie

so we walked walked walked and walked walked until it’s time for dinner! And guess what?

PA300518

DUCKIE!!!

PA300565

Very famous for its Peking Duck

Now i shall teach you how to eat Peking duck…

PA300545

1st. you eat the skin (reminds me of suckling piglet) Yummy!

PA300549

The chef will slice the duck in front of you

PA300552

place a "popiah skin"

PA300554

add in a slice of the meat and a some "sweet" sauce

PA300555

then you may add in as many strips of leek and onion to it

PA300556

wrap it the way you would wrap the normal kinda popiah. & Voila!

The waiters actually “performed” the steps of eating Peking duck to us upon my aunty’s request. Then hor, that waiter was going to feed me some more, so paiseh lar, but because he was standing in such an odd position i gestured him to just put in on my plate… btw, the step by step instructions above is done by me, the waiter didnt even wrap as nicely as i did… HAHAHA!

OH! you got to ask them to give you the sisa of the duck, with it you can boil a pot of soup or even cook porridge… aint joking!

Gosh, my tummy is growling… the other dishes are:

PA300539

some kinda of abalone with asparagus

PA300540

Fried rice. Nice but oily

PA300542

Salad, not sure if i like it

PA300541

my cup of tea

PA300535

and not forgetting my cup of beer...

In this reataurant is much much much cheaper to order a cup of tea compare to a pot of tea…

remembering this day last year (2008)…

… i was in Beijing. Ah, the cold weather; the strong breeze; my uncle’s mansion; his very playful dogs: Harry and Potter, still remember me screaming when i saw Harry running towards me when i first arrived at his house… hmmm… i am still trying to figure out the date i flew there… Time flies… Beijing is really not bad afterall… oh yea, and… HAHAHA, i am still not done blogging about my Beijing trip until today, been lazy and procrastinating. :P

Where did i stop? i think neither of us remember… hahaha, i think it’s Day 2.

So, Day 3: (will keep it short and simple, after all, this is not something new, am just writing for records sake :P )

Dont remember much already lah, but photos will refresh my memory…

Went to YONG HE fast food chain for breakfast.

YongHe Fastfood

Soya. The best i have tasted... in Beijing.

PA290353

PA290354

Not bad at all~!!! the price? about the same as McD for one set: 1 cup of soya + Yoo Tiao + mee or rice.

PA290391

"Garden" *the background looks so fake, like i was cropped into the photo.

This is The Garden… yea, if i remember correctly, this huge place was the emperor’s garden… How lavish huh? and of course, in this garden there are also 殿 ”halls”…

PA290365

The entrance to the temples

Come to think of it, their ancient buildings are all more or less the same. The edges of the roofs must have those thingies – little tiny creatures (sorry, didnt take any close up photos of their roofs) those are to guards to shoo demons away. And their doors had… erm, dont know how to describe (no photo either), if you’ve watched chinese dramas you would have noticed that they have to cross the barrier that’s at the bottom of the door, those “bariers” is to prevent ghosts from entering their premises.

PA290379

My sister speaking to the wall

PA290380

I was listening hard... to the wall

Hahaha, like lunatics, one is speaking to wall, the other is trying to hear the words from the wall… this 殿 is the garden as well, and this wall has the ability to pantul balik to sound.

Near the exit of the garden you will find alot of senior citizens…

PA290393

PA290397

Chinese Chess. is that what it's called?

PA290406

Playground... for the adults

Not joking, their old people senior citizens are very active… so health-conscious! Might be old in age but definitely not physically… fuiyoh~

PA290425

i like the feel of the photos taken in the garden… anyone might just think that i was in some ang mo countries… LOL!  Haih~ how i wish i had a DSLR… that would be awesome!

Just across the road, there is a shopping mall… FINALLY, i get to do some shopping~!!!! hehehe…

PA290430

On the pedesterian bridge

But lah, because it was end of spring (after spring is winter right?) there was hardly any summer clothings on the shelves… :(

alrite for for dinner, it was in some hakka restaurant at some really weird place, it like an alley a VERY dark one… but the restaurant has some really nice n comfy settings…

Lil cuzs

DSC08037

Bought this for my cousins, rm12 for one box from Shojikiya. And these (below) are the things in it.

DSC08044

It’s not a toy, it’s some kind of sweets… Instead of the conventional way of eating sweets, this box of thingy allows u to shape it first before putting it into your mouth. Instead of “Dont play with ur food”,  it’s “Children, let’s play with ur food first before eating it”. Interestingly creative, no?

Let’s see my cousins’ masterpieces…

Marcus - "Banana Split"

psst! i made that leaf!

Clement - "Super Rainbow Sundae"

Then, Marcus suddenly said, “i wanna make one for phoebe jie jie”… Aw, sho shweet, right? So in less than 2 minutes, he proudly presented his work to me…

Marcus - "Rainbow Submarine"

Marcus - "Rainbow Submarine"

Hahahaha! He didnt come up with that name though, my sis helped him with it…

:P

:P

me trying out the sweet, which part of the submarine was i eating? erm… the submarine’s lid/cover? LoL!

Brought them to watch Monsters vs Aliens @ Alamanda. Not as bad as i was told. Quite farnie la… Suitable for the kids, but Clement didnt like it… ish, it was his idea to watch that show…

anyway, they went home this morning. Now, there’s hardly any noise in the house…

what a niu year!

This year’s CNY is celebrated in a slightly different manner, instead of having everyone from the maternal side of the family coming over, all of us from Msia went over to S’pore. 4 Families altogether but 3 cars as one of the uncles is banned from entering S’pore for running away from S’pore National Service so only his wife and 2 daughters went.

my sis & i at the entrance of the hotel

my sis & i at the entrance of the hotel

The hotel is quite classy, i must say the room my family got was the best compared to rest, it looks newer & more spacious than the rest, the only down side is that there is only 1 king size bed when we would prefer it to be 2 single beds. Well, i guess we couldnt always get everything we wanted…

On the 1st night, we went over to my uncle’s house for BBQ, food was good.

2nd night was when we celebrated my ah ma’s (grandmother) birthday at 7th storey restaurant in Marina Mall. Food was ok. The 2 dishes i like most are the longevity noddle and the red bean (soup?). Apart from those, i get to try the latest cuisine in M’sia (johore, to be exact) called “pen cai” it seems that this pen caiis a korean dish. One has to eat layer by layer… Not too bad, and it sooooooo expensive!

3rd night, dinner at my uncle’s house again, this time his mother-in-law cooked, she made paiti, broccoli, Fried Tang Hoon, Fried rice, Tofu (not sure what style, but i like!) and ABC. It’s nice also…

During the day, we went walking around S’pore, my aunty with her children (13 and below) went to places like underwater and S’pore Zoo. While the rest of us went to SunTech City on the 2nd day and BugisStreet on the 3rd Day. We used the public transport instead of driving(cos their parking system is quite confusing, fr my past exp), so tend to walk alot from MRT stations to where we were heading. But because we had “functions” at night, we rushed around because we had to be back at the hotel at 4:00pm.   x.x  From this trip, i learned that no one should shop at S’pore during the 1st 2 days of CNY, cos hardly any shops are open for business!

Hotel's shuttle bus picked us up at the Changi Airport

Hotel's shuttle bus picked us up at the Changi Airport

Changi Airport is so cool, its design enables anyone and everyone to see the airplanes taking off and landing from a very close range while driving through the terminals. It such a thrills for me to see a plane taking off. Actually, some might think its terminals are all over the place, true, but without that i wouldn’t be able to see that many planes in close range. What an experience! Anyway, the purpose of me going to the Changi Airport is to take the MRT to city center.

my catch from singapore is

a pair of white sandal

a pair of white sandal

LOL! cost me about S$10 from Bugis Street. It is really comfortable.
the last time i went to Singapore, i bought a Giodarno baby-T for S$10 also.

With that said, i guess that’s roughly all that i wanted to write about my S’pore trip.

This year CNY was not celebrated with a peace of mind, because i cant stop thinking bout the unfinished works waiting for me back home. *SIGH*

The year 2009 has not really started well for me. Have a feeling I have to work as hard as a cow to sail through this year. Moooooo! Have to keep chewing and chewing the cuds in order to survive. It’s indeed a new year for me. Hope that i will be strong like an ox in facing the challenges ahead.

Last but not least, wishing everyone an OXsome and wonderful lunar niu year!

From bad to worse

yea, i had a bad day, muy bad. No, it was not a bad start, in fact i had fun laughing during Dr. Sham’s Asas Periklanan. After that almost everything seemed to be going downhill. i was late for skills in grammar class, only to find out that all the frantic rushing was unnecessary because the lecturer was not even there yet. After that 1 hour class, went to get my car only to see a piece of white paper under the wiper, instantly i knew it couldnt be of any good news. DARN!

To make everything short, (well, because i am totally exhausted right now) i finally went to see Prof regarding my thesis. He wasnt too nice, rebuked us for such a late appointment (he was expecting us at the 1st week of this sem),  even said that we were the worst of all the students he had ever supervised. OUCH! Was so (sooo) sarcastic when I asked for his suggestions on references for my thesis. He has that disbelieve look on his face and with a smirk he told me the references are in the toilet! DARN! What hurts even more was that i heard chuckling sound, well, not from him, i do hope that quirky sound is not a chuckle.  He is rude, too rude for words, for goodness sake, he is a HIGHLY educated elderly man, he should act like one. Shame on him for bringing down the reputation of ppl of the same rank in msia.

But from the above 2 incidents that happened today, i learnt my lessons. I have to do what I feel it’s right for ME to do. From this day forward, I am a changed girl, pray that God will help me to make the right decision whenever wherever. I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do. No more fooling around, time to get serious, or so i think.

At the end of the day, i truly am grateful to God that there is a home which i can look forward to after a trying day. Home sweet home, and i think i finally understand that true meaning of it.

Dang!

Just got back from my aunty’s house, went there for a bath because there is no water in my area, the developer (or whoever) didn’t even bother to inform us about it.  :(

***

Went to The Mines for a lil Christmas Shopping for church friends. Original plan was to go alone, but then, because my uncle wanted to replace the lenses of his spectacles and my mom has to accompany him, they ended up going with me to The Mines. Of course i did my christmas shopping alone lah~ while they were busy checking out the prices of all the specs shops available…

***

i had something to ask you, but i think feel know you are waging an invisible cold war(?? Perang dingin) against me (RIGHT?!!!!), kiasu as i am; i refused to raise my white flag to you, i had to seek help from someone else…  anyway, was really moody the other day, so bad that i…

***

I have been avoiding you, ever since the day you asked me out… Appearing offline when you are online… I don’t know why am i avoiding you, are u avoiding me too? Just wondering because you didn’t start a conversation with me when i finally braved myself to “face” you. Well, you may busy…

***

Have not been sleeping well for the past few days, insomnia so bad that i even thought about thesis!!! Freak me out! scary! i dont wanna go back to uni. NO!

***

oh, my butt hurts… for no reason…

Very sleepy and tired now… emotionally drained while waiting for something that would not happen…

A morning of hard works

My mom was away in Broga since Sunday…
Woke up at 0730 to prepare breakfast for my sis, after she has gone for work, I swept and mopped the house. *sweat*
Took a shower before hand-washing and scrubbing (in 4 different directions; up, down, left and right) 3 big size bathing towels. I am drained~~!
Dang! my nail polish came off due to the washing, and my hands are feeling so dry… I wish for a SPA treatment now. :)
Lately I’ve been painting my nails quite often, while i was at it, i felt like a siu lai lai. Today, however, having worked so hard on house chores, i felt like a wong min po instead. LOL!
anyway, excuse me for i have to go and get my dehydrated hands (palms, to be exact) moisturized… then, it’s off to bed! ZzzzZzzzZzzz…

~sweet~ success

Today is my mummy’s birthday, so i have decided to bake make a cake for her. Dragon Fruit Chilled Cheese Cake to be exact, i’ve never tried making cheesecake before, so I was very excited about it.

I got this recipe from 8tv’s Ho Chak TV series, i don’t normally watch Ho Chak, but on that fateful sunday evening, having ntg else to do, i turned on the tv, only 5 minutes left of that episode, saw these 2 hosts half-way thru demonstrating the making of this cheese cake. The preparation seemed to be quite simple, so i thought why not make this cake for mummy on her birthday.

I did the whole cake on my own, I spent nearly 2 hours in the kitchen, standing the whole time and had even forgotten about my lunch…

To make this cheese cake, oven is not needed, instead is has to be chilled for 3 hours, during this 3 hours of wait, i cant resist myself from opening the refrigerator’s door to peep at my cheese cake every now and then.

Lo and Behold…

Dragon Fruit Chilled Cheese Cake!

Day 2 – Beijing

For 2 reasons there will not be alot of photos in this post: 1, wordpress is not capable of handling bloggers who have many photos to upload. To blame it all on wordpress would be too unfair for wordpress, but i think internet connection is also another contributing factor! 2, I didnt take enough of solo pictures to be uploaded in my blog.

okie here we go… my aunty is a VERY organized person, she planned our itinery and made sure we followed. But with people like me and my sis around, her plan was delayed by at least 30 minutes almost every other day. Not entirely our fault lur, we (exclude my parents, pls) just couldnt get ourselves to wake up, bathe (which is unneccessary to bathe in the morning in cold climate country!), dress and be down for breakfast at 8:30am! :?

So on tuesday (28th/10/2008) we left the house at about 9:30am together with my uncle. We were going to the Forbidden City, just opposite the Maoseleum. There was a long que to enter the Mao Ze Dong building, It seems that this great man of china is very vain, that is why he requested his body to be embalmed, we didnt enter cos we thought it’s not worth the hassle…

this is a Tigress, or izit or lioness?

this is a lioness

Do you know how to differentiate the male from the female? the male lion has a BALL under his paw, it means Dominion over the world, while the lioness has a CUB under her paw, it means her duty is to reproduce and take care of the cubs.

Anyway, the Forbidden city (故宫) is right in the center of Beijing and it is HUGE! My uncle left us to walk alone while he went off to work. After walking for nearly 2 hours, we stopped by for a break, and it was quite hard to find a proper rest area that sells proper meals, they only have 小吃, we ended up eating tidbits for lunch.

No no no, this is an INDOOR restaurant, located in the lower ground floor of some mall… anyway, went back home after dinner… My sis and I were hoping to do a lil more shopping before heading back, but my uncle being typically man, never really thought much about all these stuff, plus we were paiseh to voice out to him, cos he was working that day and the next day, not good to tired ppl out ma…

Day 1 – Beijing

as you all know, i took air china to beijing, the air plane was quite small, and it’s not new, we boarded the plane at 12:10am and the plane took off at 12:20am SHARP! very punctual! Impressive! however, their announcement (in English) was really funny, i could hardly get a sentence from it, but, i managed to get this: SUPPER will be served in 15 minutes!!! hohoho!! wasnt expecting any meals from them, but GREAT! although i had heavy dinner, but i was kinda hungry…

I was the 1st to fall asleep in the plane was also the 1st one to wake up, but to no avail, was very thirsty in the middle of the night, my throat was feeling abit discomfort, i needed WATER!!! I didn’t dare to ask for the cabin crew to come,  come to think of it i was so 小胆for no reason! so very THIRSTY!!! 犹豫了很久,终于the air-stewardess came with a bottle of mineral water and paper cups… why so kam siap??  Gave me only a small cup of water, i needed the WHOLE bottle!!!! that was how desperately i needed water…

anyway, reached Beijing at about 7am… but the sky was already very bright…

pa270098

erm, this was taken before i landed, at around 6+ am

and the plane stopped in the middle of no where… -.-lll

such "grand" exit.

such "grand" exit

then we braved the strong chill wind and ran to the shuttle bus that was waiting for us…

pa2701081

oh, prior to landing, there were 3 blacks sitting in front of me, when they heard that we were landing, they quickly put on their VERY THICK winter clothings, wool cap and even gloves! i stared with disbelief! they were the only ones that did that in the whole plane!!! LOL. it’s not going to be THAT cold, and to wear like that in the plane… it’s going to to be soooo hot for them, true enough, a few minutes after that, they unzipped their winter jacket and took off their gloves!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA…..

anyway, the airport is HUGE, (yet couldnt even have a proper exit for the passengers!) we went to claim our bags a little too late, hence, our luggages ended up at the Lost and Found counter! -.-lll

my aunty left us at home to bathe and rest while she went to do her bit for the society, to be precise, she went to help out in an orphanage, that’s her usual mondays routine… my sis and i managed to get a nap after a bath!! hehehe…

then we were off for LUNCH!!! can’t wait, cos my aunty said we were going to have DIM SUM for lunch! YAY! but before that, we paid a visit to my cousin’s international school, Internation School of Beijing. This school is exclusively for foreigners with chinese blood, hehe… VERY VERY expensive!!! Everything is very impressive about this school except for their toilet!

to eat 小龙包, you need to first poke a hole at the 包 to pour out the juice in it to the little silver cup that comes with every 包。Then you eat the 包 and lastly drink the juice. I took a sip of that juice, and i felt that i had instantly put on 1kg!

These were what my aunty ordered!

叉烧包,lobak糕,Har Gao, 云吞,麻辣面,DonDon面,菜心,and also Egg fried with Chives.
They sterilised ALL the Plates, bowls, cups, chopsticks, spoons and every other things i might have left out! Beijing is not as dirty and ulu as we all thought it to be, frankly, i have never seen any restaurants in msia that has a sterilising machine! Even small restaurant in the outskirts of Beijing (around the Great wall there) has that machine! Shame on us!

This is our Bill

After converting it, it’s roughly 100 Ringgit, not too expensive right?
To seek a waitress just SHOUT with a very loud and stern voice, “服员!” (short form for服务员) LOL. unlike msia, we would be “excuse me, excuse me, bla bla bla” Awww… we malaysians are sooooo polite and soft-spoken, NO?

Then, we went to have our hair washed and cut at WENFENG salon, the brand of the shampoo used was WENFENG brand, the Logo of their shampoo is a photo of WENFENG , well, i assumed WENFENG is the name of the founder… hahaha… they all looked professional, they have uniforms, the all look like pilots and air stewardess, ladies are in charge of washing of hairs while the men style the customers’ hair. That man who cut my hair wanted to perm, colour my hair!!! and i almost allowed him to do so!!! ALMOST!!! SO CLOSE to doing it, thankfully my aunty came back in time to rescue my hair!!! That man was VERY persistent, kept saying “如果只是这里修一修,那里修一修,太没意思拉!” ARGH! so anyway, now i am with Fringe and a heavily layered hair!!! I vowed (to myself) that i no longer want to layer my hair nor do i want to have fringe ever again, and this man made me go against my own vow!!!
