Day 2 – Beijing

For 2 reasons there will not be alot of photos in this post: 1, wordpress is not capable of handling bloggers who have many photos to upload. To blame it all on wordpress would be too unfair for wordpress, but i think internet connection is also another contributing factor! 2, I didnt take enough of solo pictures to be uploaded in my blog.

okie here we go… my aunty is a VERY organized person, she planned our itinery and made sure we followed. But with people like me and my sis around, her plan was delayed by at least 30 minutes almost every other day. Not entirely our fault lur, we (exclude my parents, pls) just couldnt get ourselves to wake up, bathe (which is unneccessary to bathe in the morning in cold climate country!), dress and be down for breakfast at 8:30am! :?

So on tuesday (28th/10/2008) we left the house at about 9:30am together with my uncle. We were going to the Forbidden City, just opposite the Maoseleum. There was a long que to enter the Mao Ze Dong building, It seems that this great man of china is very vain, that is why he requested his body to be embalmed, we didnt enter cos we thought it’s not worth the hassle…

this is a Tigress, or izit or lioness?

this is a lioness

Do you know how to differentiate the male from the female? the male lion has a BALL under his paw, it means Dominion over the world, while the lioness has a CUB under her paw, it means her duty is to reproduce and take care of the cubs.

Anyway, the Forbidden city (故宫) is right in the center of Beijing and it is HUGE! My uncle left us to walk alone while he went off to work. After walking for nearly 2 hours, we stopped by for a break, and it was quite hard to find a proper rest area that sells proper meals, they only have 小吃, we ended up eating tidbits for lunch.

No no no, this is an INDOOR restaurant, located in the lower ground floor of some mall… anyway, went back home after dinner… My sis and I were hoping to do a lil more shopping before heading back, but my uncle being typically man, never really thought much about all these stuff, plus we were paiseh to voice out to him, cos he was working that day and the next day, not good to tired ppl out ma…

What should i do with this Chunky bracelet? my aunty gave it to me last Christmas…

as you all can imagine, the rantai itself is 粗enough… well, maybe i can wear it when I am in the “ROCK” mood???

anyway, below is a photo of me with my new haircut, NO, i didnt cut my hair again, this one was the one from Beijing, couldnt post it in the previous post, as wordpress is lagged enough. WordPress is killing me slowly, but surely… wordpress, wordpress, 真的要气死我了啦!

Day 1 – Beijing

as you all know, i took air china to beijing, the air plane was quite small, and it’s not new, we boarded the plane at 12:10am and the plane took off at 12:20am SHARP! very punctual! Impressive! however, their announcement (in English) was really funny, i could hardly get a sentence from it, but, i managed to get this: SUPPER will be served in 15 minutes!!! hohoho!! wasnt expecting any meals from them, but GREAT! although i had heavy dinner, but i was kinda hungry…

I like the Fried Mee Hoon better, it’s really nice.. YUMMY YUMMY!

I was the 1st to fall asleep in the plane was also the 1st one to wake up, but to no avail, was very thirsty in the middle of the night, my throat was feeling abit discomfort, i needed WATER!!! I didn’t dare to ask for the cabin crew to come,  come to think of it i was so 小胆for no reason! so very THIRSTY!!! 犹豫了很久,终于the air-stewardess came with a bottle of mineral water and paper cups… why so kam siap??  Gave me only a small cup of water, i needed the WHOLE bottle!!!! that was how desperately i needed water…

anyway, reached Beijing at about 7am… but the sky was already very bright…

erm, this was taken before i landed, at around 6+ am

and the plane stopped in the middle of no where… -.-lll

such "grand" exit.

such "grand" exit

then we braved the strong chill wind and ran to the shuttle bus that was waiting for us…

pa2701081

oh, prior to landing, there were 3 blacks sitting in front of me, when they heard that we were landing, they quickly put on their VERY THICK winter clothings, wool cap and even gloves! i stared with disbelief! they were the only ones that did that in the whole plane!!! LOL. it’s not going to be THAT cold, and to wear like that in the plane… it’s going to to be soooo hot for them, true enough, a few minutes after that, they unzipped their winter jacket and took off their gloves!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA…..

anyway, the airport is HUGE, (yet couldnt even have a proper exit for the passengers!) we went to claim our bags a little too late, hence, our luggages ended up at the Lost and Found counter! -.-lll

Filling the Arrival Card, compulsory for all foreigners

Filling the Arrival Card, compulsory for all foreigners

By right, should have filled in the plane… anyway, this also delayed us abit from claiming our luggages…

my aunty left us at home to bathe and rest while she went to do her bit for the society, to be precise, she went to help out in an orphanage, that’s her usual mondays routine… my sis and i managed to get a nap after a bath!! hehehe…

then we were off for LUNCH!!! can’t wait, cos my aunty said we were going to have DIM SUM for lunch! YAY! but before that, we paid a visit to my cousin’s international school, Internation School of Beijing. This school is exclusively for foreigners with chinese blood, hehe… VERY VERY expensive!!! Everything is very impressive about this school except for their toilet!

AIYOH, will not talk about the school anymore lah… wordpress is testing my patience by giving me so much headaches in uploading photos!!!

LUNCH! delicious!!! DIM SUM! Half price after 2.00pm!!! for every plate of dim sum is only around 3 ringgit! Cheap kan?

The First to come was…. MY LOVE!!!
香港猪肠粉

香港猪肠粉

it has a prawn in EVERY square!! unlike the ones in Msia, one plate of Chee Cheong Fun only has 3 to 4 prawns! YUMMY

小龙包

小龙包

to eat 小龙包, you need to first poke a hole at the 包 to pour out the juice in it to the little silver cup that comes with every 包。Then you eat the 包 and lastly drink the juice. I took a sip of that juice, and i felt that i had instantly put on 1kg!

These were what my aunty ordered!

These were what my aunty ordered!

叉烧包,lobak糕,Har Gao, 云吞,麻辣面,DonDon面,菜心,and also Egg fried with Chives.
They sterilised ALL the Plates, bowls, cups, chopsticks, spoons and every other things i might have left out! Beijing is not as dirty and ulu as we all thought it to be, frankly, i have never seen any restaurants in msia that has a sterilising machine! Even small restaurant in the outskirts of Beijing (around the Great wall there) has that machine! Shame on us!

This is our Bill

This is our Bill

After converting it, it’s roughly 100 Ringgit, not too expensive right?
To seek a waitress just SHOUT with a very loud and stern voice, “服员!” (short form for服务员) LOL. unlike msia, we would be “excuse me, excuse me, bla bla bla” Awww… we malaysians are sooooo polite and soft-spoken, NO?

Then, we went to have our hair washed and cut at WENFENG salon, the brand of the shampoo used was WENFENG brand, the Logo of their shampoo is a photo of WENFENG , well, i assumed WENFENG is the name of the founder… hahaha… they all looked professional, they have uniforms, the all look like pilots and air stewardess, ladies are in charge of washing of hairs while the men style the customers’ hair. That man who cut my hair wanted to perm, colour my hair!!! and i almost allowed him to do so!!! ALMOST!!! SO CLOSE to doing it, thankfully my aunty came back in time to rescue my hair!!! That man was VERY persistent, kept saying “如果只是这里修一修,那里修一修,太没意思拉!” ARGH! so anyway, now i am with Fringe and a heavily layered hair!!! I vowed (to myself) that i no longer want to layer my hair nor do i want to have fringe ever again, and this man made me go against my own vow!!!

WenFeng Salon

after the salon, my aunty brought us to 鸟巢, Beijing 2008 OLYMPIC STADIUM, in the shape of a bird’s nest hence the name bird’s nest!

and, China LOVES to play with lights…

For example:

Aren't these people creative?

Aren't these ppl creative?

The graphics keep changing, now you see a man pulling a horse, next you would see waters pouring down, then bubbles flowing up… oh, you might think it’s already 8:00pm, but NO, it’s only 5+ pm!!!!

anyway, that’s about it… my 1st day in Beijing…

Bowling

went to the Mines with peggy, san and joee… Had Ajisen Ramen for lunch, not sure of the spelling though! it’s not bad (i ordered chicken teriyaki ramen), but pricey.

Went bowling with joee after lunch while the other 2 ladies went shopping…

we played 4 games, my nail (thumb) broke after the 2nd throw :(   and also i think i pulled my left thigh muscle, because somewhere around my knee hurts, sigh~ my sprained (left) ankle has not even fully receovered and here i come with another injury. TSK! TSK! what is that chinese proverb that says something like “one matter hasn’t settle but another matter has arised”?

  but it’s worth it, cos i WON!!! bwahahahahahahaha…!  :D

my marks were:

1st round = 73

2nd round = 103

3rd round = 43

4th round = 71

*blush* actually, the marks are only so-so nia… but it’s very “reasonable” considering the fact that i have not been playing for ages! hahahaha…

I am gamed for another round of bowling! but don’t know to play with who…

where do i start?

I have so many many things to write about my trip to Beijing, where shall i begin?

mmm, i think i will start by introducing abit of Beijing…

Did You Know that

1. Beijing does not have motorbikes? It’s ILLEGAL. According to my aunty, this is to prevent snatch thefts! i think this is great, and it should be implemented in Msia too. Not only will it reduce the number of snatch thefts it will also curb mat rempit’s activities (in msia), plus, dont you think many of the accidents on the road are due to motorists zig-zagging/criss-crossing?

2. Cost of taking public transport is VERY CHEAP! for taxi it’s RMB 2.00 per KM; bus, RMB 0.40 (if you have a card similar to our touch n go, if not it would be RMB 1.00) to anywhere in Beijing! and their taxis’ and buses’ drivers have uniforms! They look really professional, another thing is that their vehicles look clean and new!

3. The structure (don’t know what other words to use) of beijing is very organize, (pola terancang, if i remember my form 1 geography correctly) mmm… i was thinking hard for the past few days on how i should explain this, then i suddenly thought of onion… well, communication students would know about the “onion” theory (LOL. the real name is penetration theory). What I am trying to say here is that Beijing has 6 (i think) rings, something like an onion, a circle surrounded by another circle, you get what I mean? this was planned and executed centuries ago by don’t know which dynasty. Right in the center is where the Palace is (thus, where the emperor was), to conquer the heart of beijing (the emperor) the enemy must first break down all the walls/barriers surrounding it. Understand? Nvm, i will move on from here…

4. Beijing is slightly bigger than Singapore, but it has more than 10 millions of ppl! my aunty said even a town has 1 million penduduk, i cant imagine kajang has 1 million penduduk. Btw, what’s penduduk in english? -.-lll well, you would think that beijing would be so cramped with ppl, instead of traffic jam there would be ppl jam, but i didnt feel it all. in fact, i dont see that MANY ppl… emm… maybe it’s like that many ppl walking around sungai wang, lot 10 that area??? don’t know lah… and it takes sooooo loong to reach a place from another in Beijing, but it only takes about 45 – 50 minutes to drive through singapore!

5. Drivers in Beijing are ganas, you dont have to wait for the traffic light, just go if there is no car! but i think they are not that strict with traffic rules at the outskirt of beijing, which is the 4th layer and above. And they like to swirve in and out, and surprisingly no one is honked for that reckless behaviour! FYI, their is LHD (left-hand drive) and do not simply honk ppl, cos you cannot be sure of the status of the driver you honk, he or she might be someone in the society! (by that i mean DAI LOU or DAI LOU’s girls, get what i mean?)

6. Every car owner has to sacrifice 1 day of driving during the weekdays, depending on his car number plate. This is to reduce polution and also to ease traffic congestion. number plates ending with 1 or 6 cannot drive on Monday; 2 or 7 on Tuesday; 3 or 8 on Wednesday… well, you get the picture! i feel msia should do the same too! We should not wait for the polution to worsen then only take action, prevention is better than cure wert! further more, the traffic jam is terrible in msia! the traffic in beijing is sooo smooth, their traffic jam is so not stressful at all, although there were many many cars on the road but they were moving… slowly (maybe around 30/40 km per hour?) but steadily…  @.@
yeala, let’s practice this trend among ourselves la, ok? let’s see, 1st thing 1st, what’s my car’s number plate ah?

7. they too have BIG important exam, it’s like our PMR, but theirs is very important, they must really score (as in FULL As because of its HUGE population) in order for them to get a place in prestigious high school. the thing is, once you got into any of these prestigious high school, scholarship is given to u automatically, if you are not chosen, then mostly likely, that is the end of ur education, because no commoner can afford for that kinda of education… oh oh oh, the craziest thing i have heard is that, they study SEVEN DAYS A WEEK!!!!! Tujuh hari seminggu! from norning till night!! goodness me!

8. Typical Beijing ppl are thin thin tall tall, if you are not from the bei fang then they qiao bu qi ni!

well, yea, that’s about it… that is all i can remember about the interesting facts i learnt about Beijing… at least for now. rest assured that this is certainly not the end of my post on Beijing trip. Well, at least it’s a good start.  :P

Water

so, have you chosen your answer???

aiyak~ where should i write my answer to this question???

alright, Beijing post coming right up! Just thought that it’s important for everyone of us to know about this water issue~  :)

i meant to blog about my trip to beijing once i got back to Malaysia,  but i am currently suffering from a temporary lost of interest in everything. (could it be that i have TOO MUCH to write, til my brain jammed?!) The only thing that I find myself doing apart from sleeping and eating is exercising @ TLS (even though i am sick, on the verge of losing my voice). ~swt~ it feels like i am having jet lag, so sleepy all the time and i get hungry every 2 hours! scary!

so pls be patient, bear with me… i WILL write about my vacation soon (keeping fingers crossed)~!

psst: even writing a simple post like this is a pain…   >.<  and i am hungry again…  :(
